making our electroscopes...

we made a contraption called an electroscope using a jar, a nail, cardboard and aluminum foil.

to make an electroscope, we poked a nail into a piece of cardboard and hung strips of aluminum foil inside the jars.

next, we negatively charged our balloons and watched as the hanging strips of foil in our electroscopes moved away from each other, demonstrating that like charges repel from each other!

upon discovering that tissue paper sticks to balloons (tissue paper has a neutral charge while balloons have more negative charges than positive charges), we cut out pieces of tissue paper and made different creatures- without glue or tape!
