making kichree for lunch...

it was delicious!

the broken angel house...

while studying vernacular architecture and the fading prominence of mid-century modern design we stopped at the broken angel house. To our surprise its owner, arthur wood, was there! we got to talk with him for a while- he had a lot of interesting stories to share...

we even helped him collect some rocks for a project he's working on!

bridge challenge...

the kids were challenged to build a bridge using only paperclips and straws...

it was a fun experiment to observe. the kids' innovative ideas constantly amaze us!

nova's cozy room design...

how do you create comfort in the city?

we visited the new space at putnam and grand to play a game of "draw and find"! the kids sat by themselves while they observed and documented their surroundings. they chose objects, people, or sounds to draw and afterwards tried to identify each other's illustrations.

vocab word of the day: ATMOSPHERE

we created a peaceful atmosphere in the classroom by turning off the lights, "lighting" our LED tea candles, and turning on gentle music. the kids spoke quietly as they led each other through different yoga poses, followed by a calming meditation. afterwards, we created a chaotic atmosphere by swapping the music out for the clash and turning the lights back on. i spoke loudly as i led the kids through different poses. everyone agreed there was a serious difference between the two experiences!

working on our rope bridge...

in the end we managed to create a foot and hand rail, allowing the kids to get across completely on their own!
